Kol sena w enta tayb / enti tayba is super common.

My love. : 7abiby.

.حبيبي

Another super common Egyptian Arabic word.

Use this word basically like “sweetheart.”

Did you (fem.) sleep well? : Nemty kwaiss?

نمتي كويس؟

A good question to know how to say.

Half half. : nos nos.

.نص نص

This literally means “half half”, but it’s a common way to say “not so great.”

God be with you. : rbna ma3ak.

ربنا معاك

A common way to express sympathy for someone.

Send location. : eb3ati location.

. ابعتي لوكيشن

This is basically the guy flirting.

Also a common thing to hear when ordering an Uber and talking to the driver. 🙂

Hahaha, liar. hahah ay kalam.

.هاهاها اي كلام

Ay kalam means “nonsense” or “bullshit”.

It’s also a way to say “you are lying” in a joking way.

Context + Further Explanation

Egyptians love Valentine’s Day, even though it’s not an official holiday.

And, fun fact – there are two different days for Valentine’s Day in Egypt!

One last point – Egyptians have a great sense of humor, If you are on Facebook, expect to see some funny Valentine’s Day memes and jokes circulating online.

(It helps if you understand Arabic so you can laugh along!)

Happy learning,
